Maya Bach is a current M.S. candidate in Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. With a background as a Registered Dietitian, Maya's work lies at the intersection of sustainable food systems, climate change, and animal protection. Her current research assesses the credibility of climate-related claims made by global meat and dairy companies. Identifying potential greenwashing practices bridges the gap between sustainability reporting, current mitigation efforts, and adopting evidence-based policies and practices that align with global temperature goals.
After graduating from the University of California San Diego with a B.A. in Human Development, Maya earned her Master's in Public Health from Loma Linda University, where she focused on assessing the benefits of nutrition interventions within the local community. Following graduate school, she gained experience working at a medical center in Chicago before establishing a private dietetics practice specializing in chronic disease management and prenatal nutrition. With a passion for public health, animal welfare, and environmental protection, Maya aims to further her impact through her work at UM. As a student, she has developed and led a series of low-carbon plant-based cooking classes for students and faculty, empowering participants to make informed choices that benefit the planet and its inhabitants.
